Course Description
This course is a part of "Year 1 Semester 2 E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme".
Year 1 Semester 2 E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme is organised into the following modules:
- Module 1: Learning Outcomes, Success Criteria and SMART Learning Outcomes
- Module 2: Planning Effective Teaching
- Module 3: Inclusive Practice in the Classroom
- Module 4: Assessment Approaches
- Module 5: Inclusive Assessment and Assessment Rubrics
In this course, we will study Module 2, which covers the following topics.

- Planning teacher-centred lessons
- Planning learner-centred lessons
Module 2.2. Teaching and Learning Approaches, Methods and Strategies
- Teaching approaches, methods and strategies, and parts of a lesson
- Selecting and planning learning activities
Module 2.3. Classroom Management
- Large classroom management
- Large classrooms and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
- Adapting and planning lessons for large classroom
Course Objectives
After completing this course, teacher educators will be better equipped with the competencies to effectively deliver the Pre-service Teacher Education Year 1 Semester 2 curriculum.
Learning Outcomes
By completing this course, teacher educators will be able to
- identify the characteristics of the learner-centred approach;
- identify the advantages and challenges of the learner-centred approach;
- compare and contrast the teacher-centred and learner-centred approach;
- review the toolbox of teaching and learning strategies and lesson plan template for the pre-service teacher education curriculum;
- distinguish between a teaching approach, a teaching method and a teaching strategy;
- identify teaching approaches, methods and strategies in different subject lesson plans;
- identify the parts of a lesson;
- select appropriate teaching approaches, methods and strategies for the different parts of a lesson;
- identify classroom management strategies suitable for large classroom; and
- adapt lessons for large classrooms.
