Course Description

This course is a part of "Year 1 Semester 2 E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme".

Year 1 Semester 2 E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme is organised into the following modules:

  • Module 1: Learning Outcomes, Success Criteria and SMART Learning Outcomes
  • Module 2: Planning Effective Teaching
  • Module 3: Inclusive Practice in the Classroom
  • Module 4: Assessment Approaches
  • Module 5: Inclusive Assessment and Assessment Rubrics

In this course, we will study Module 4, which covers the following topics.

Module 4.1. Assessment and Learning Outcomes

  • The continuum of assessment approaches
  • Relationship between assessment, learning outcomes, and learning
  • Continuous assessment

Module 4.2. Type of Assessment Tasks

  • Open and closed assessment approaches 
  • How to set assessment tasks.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, teacher educators will be better equipped with the competencies to effectively deliver the Pre-service Teacher Education Year 1 Semester 2 curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, teacher educators will be able to

  • distinguish between different assessment approaches and purposes of assessment;
  • explain the relationship between assessment, learning outcomes, and teaching activities;  
  • assess the validity of assessment choices for different subject areas;
  • discuss the differences between open and closed assessment tasks; and 
  • develop open and closed assessment tasks.
