This module is the fourth of five modules, all focusing on integrating conflict sensitive education (CSE) principles and strategies in planning and programming.

The previous modules explained that a programming cycle constitutes successive–sometimes overlapping phases. Those phases are:

  1. The Needs Assessment and Conflict Analysis Phase
  2. The Design Phase
  3. The Implementation Phase
  4. The Monitoring Phase and
  5. The Evaluation Phase

Monitoring educational programmes in a conflict-sensitive context is difficult and might be challenging due to complex and convoluted reasons, e.g. lack of proper understanding of the importance of monitoring, lack of tools, lack of resources, time or capabilities. However, monitoring has proved to be highly important for a programme’s effectiveness. It is even more important in conflict settings, where the conflict sensitivity of an educational programme needs to be assessed throughout the implementation and delivery phase. Monitoring programmes in the context of CSE ensures that programmes do not exacerbate tension and disagreements within the community, it also ensures that the programme stays aligned to its initial goals and objectives.

Module Target Audience

This module has been designed for organisation leaders and programme/project managers active in the education sector within Myanmar, regardless of the nature of the learning initiatives they are organising, e.g.,

  • Formal, informal, non-formal schools and educational opportunities
  • Private, public and community schools

  9. Manage collected data (i.e., undertake proper data entry & data storage);
  10. Analyse monitoring data;
  11. Interpret, report monitoring data and respond to findings;
  12. Check the conflict sensitivity of monitoring activities;
  13. List the key monitoring challenges and risks;
