Understanding and Responding to Children’s Needs in Inclusive Classrooms- A Guide

This Guide can be used in addition to the UNESCO TeacherEducation Resource Pack: Special Needs in the Classroom (see Boxon p. 8). It repeats some of the messages contained in the ResourcePack. But it also guides teachers on practical ways of coping withchildren who have particular difficulties in learning. The Guide can be used as a study book on its own or as a guidefor groups of teachers studying together. It should help:Teachers who already have children with ‘special needs’ intheir classes. Teachers who have limited experience of such children butwho want to learn more.“No two children are the same”. How often have you said that? Takeany class of children in your school. They may be the same age butare they all alike? No! How do they differ from one another?Some are tall; others are small. Some are shy; others are for-ward. Some learn quickly; others are slow.
