Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the Teacher Competency Standards Framework (TCSF), as a tool for continuous professional development in Myanmar’s educational context. In this course, teachers will explore the foundational principles, four domains of competence standards, and minimum requirements and indicators necessary to meet these standards. This course emphasizes the importance of aligning teaching practices with the national and regional standards outlined in the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Framework (SEA-TCF). Additionally, it provides ideas and foundations for teachers to develop their professional portfolios, ensuring their contents align with the guidelines provided in the TCSF. 

The course covers the following modules: 

Module 1: Introduction to the TSCF

Module 2: The TSCF for teacher continuous professional development

2.1. Stages of professional development defined by the TCSF

Course Objectives

This course aims to provide teachers with a comprehensive understanding of the definition and core principles of the TCSF. It equips teachers with practical skills to relate the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Framework (SEA-TCF) to Myanmar’s TCSF. Teachers will learn how to design professional portfolios. By the end of the course, teachers will be able to enhance their professional development using the ‘learn-apply-reflect’ model.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to 

  • Clearly define the TCSF and its significance in education. 
  • Identify and explain the two aspects of competence within the TCSF.
  • Gain insights into the core principles rooted in the TCSF.
  • Recognize the importance of engaging in continuous professional development.
  • Identify specific areas of continuous professional growth related to teachers’ current professional status, whether they are pre-service or in-service.
  • Identify strengths and areas for improvement in teaching stages by applying the TCSF.
  • Gain ability to develop effective outcomes in specific areas. 
  • Improve confidence, professional satisfaction, and ability to stay updated with current educational practices.
  • Relate the competencies of Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Framework (SEA-TCF) to the four main domains of competency standards within the Myanmar Teacher Competence Standards Framework (TCSF). 
  • Identify and meet the minimum requirements for professional performance in the domains of knowledge, skills, values, and growth. 
  • Apply the benchmarks for ‘Teaching Competence’ and ‘Teacher Competence’ to ensure adherence to regional standards.
  • Possess the ability to reflect on teaching practices by applying the portfolio as a tool for self-assessment, improvement, and goal setting.
  • Learn how to structure and design a professional portfolio in alignment with the national teaching standards or the TCSF.
  • Identify and select appropriate contents for the portfolio.
