This course, Effective Lesson Planning, provides the educators with the essential skills and knowledge to create effective lesson plans that address learners’ needs. Through understanding key considerations and practical application using a sample template, the educators design engaging and organized lessons. The course comprises the following modules:
Module 1: Key considerations for effective lessons

1.2. The process of lesson planning
1.3. SMART learning objectives
1.4. Teaching and learning strategies
1.5. Time management and pacing
1.6. Lesson plan stages
Module 2: Preparing your own lesson plan using a sample template
2.1. Introduction to the sample lesson plan template
2.2. Step-by-step guide to filling out the template
Course Objectives
Learning Outcomes
- Understand students’ needs in terms of prior knowledge, learning styles, and interests;
- Formulate SMART learning objectives for a lesson;
- Identify a variety of teaching and learning strategies;
- Understand the importance of allocating appropriate time for each part of the lesson from the beginning to the end;
- Understand the importance of using lesson plan templates;
- Identify key components of a lesson plan template; and
- Complete a lesson plan template.
