Course Description
This course, ‘Assessment Strategies and Tools for Learning’, is developed for beginner teachers to be able to use assessment techniques. Assessment can be defined as measuring students’ learning progress during and after a lesson, course or programme. Conducting assessment helps teachers to be able to evaluate their own teaching strategies and improve the learning experiences of their students. This course covers the following modules:

Course Objectives
This course helps you to identify various assessment strategies and to practice assessment techniques in your lessons so that you will be able to identify ways to assess students’ progress and evaluate your choice of teaching strategies.

By the end of this course, teachers will be able to

- Define open assessment;
- Distinguish between open and closed assessment;
- Demonstrate ways to apply closed and open assessments;
- Describe why and when teachers need to assess their students;
- Differentiate between assessment strategies;
- Recognize why a balanced use of varied assessment types is beneficial;
- Explain what marking assessment is;
- Explain rubrics and criteria; and
- Describe required considerations when developing rubric.
