Course Description

This course is a part of "Year 2 Semester 1 E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme".

Year 2 Semester 2  E-Learning Course for Teacher Educators - Pre-service Teacher Education Programme is organised into the following modules:

  • Module 1:Reflecting on Myanmar’s Education System and Curriculum Agendas
  • Module 2: Educational Philosophy and Educational Theory
  • Module 3: Assessment Approaches and Principles
  • Module 4: Supportive and Safe Learning Environments
  • Module 5: Teacher Professionalism

In this course, we will study Module 2, which covers the following topics.

Module 2.1. Major Educational Philosophies and Educational Theories

  • Importance of educational philosophy
  • Major educational philosophies and educational theories and their application to the classroom
  • Leadership strategies

Module 2.2. Developing a personal teaching philosophy

  • Writing a personal teaching philosophy
  • EPSD/ ESD competencies and pedagogies and Whole School Approach
  • Human rights education in Middle School

Course Objectives

After completing this course, teacher educators will be better equipped with the competencies to effectively deliver the Pre-service Teacher Education Year 2 Semester 1 curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

By completing this course, teacher educators will be able to:

  • Critically reflect on the importance of philosophy in education;
  • Summarise the major philosophies and educational theories and how they apply to classroom practice;
  • Name the most common qualities of educational leaders; 
  • Explore different strategies to use as an educational leader in the classroom and the theories these strategies are inspired by; 
  • Consolidate what they know about educational philosophers and the philosophies they have contributed; 
  • Review the questions from the self-reflective interviews in order to support the framing of your own personal teaching philosophy; and
  • Write their own personal teaching philosophy.
