This course, Using SMART for Learning Success, is designed for educators to be able to apply their competencies gained and the tools to create engaging and effective lessons that prepare students with 21st Century skills. The course covers the following modules:

Course Objectives

This course helps you to understand and practice the strategies for developing SMART learning outcomes and maximising the effectiveness of your lessons so that students are ready with the skills they need for the real world.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, teachers will be able to 

  • Distinguish between lower order and higher order thinking levels;
  • Identify which thinking levels are being used in example lessons;
  • Explain why teachers need to use Bloom’s Taxonomy when planning their lessons;
  • Identify action verbs that can be associated with each level of thinking;
  • Match example activities with each level of thinking;
  • Explain the connection between learning outcomes, activities and assessment;
  • Identify and evaluate SMART learning outcomes for different subjects; and
  • Develop SMART learning outcomes that also make use of Bloom’s Taxonomy action verbs in order to maximise the effectiveness of a lesson.
